In early October 2025, the Orion Australia team visited Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary, a renowned conservation site in northern Tasmania that cares for kangaroos, wombats, and the island’s famous Tasmanian devils. Nestled among rolling hills and tall eucalyptus, the sanctuary offers a safe home for rescued wildlife and a learning space for visitors of all ages.

A Meaningful Visit with Tasmania’s Native Wildlife

The drive to Trowunna was a reminder of how deeply water storage is woven into Tasmanian life. Almost every property we passed, from cozy rural homes to sprawling farms, had at least one water tank standing proudly beside it. In Tasmania, rainwater storage isn’t an option; it’s a way of life. Arriving at Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary, that same necessity came to life in a more meaningful way. Kangaroos wandered freely across the park, visitors stopped to feed them, and caretakers shared stories about their ongoing efforts to protect the Tasmanian devil.

For the Orion team, the visit was both inspiring and grounding — a firsthand look at the dedication behind everyday conservation. It also reminded us that something as ordinary as a reliable water supply quietly sustains these extraordinary efforts: cleaning habitats, maintaining vegetation, and providing fresh water for the animals.

Trowunna’s Two 23,000 L Orion Tanks

To strengthen its operations, Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary installed two 23,000-litre Orion water tanks designed to endure Tasmania’s variable climate and heavy daily use. These tanks now support the sanctuary’s essential work, from cleaning and irrigation to animal care — ensuring that each part of the park runs efficiently year-round.

The installation is a reflection of how Orion’s practical solutions have become part of Tasmania’s everyday rhythm, meeting a real need and quietly supporting communities, industries, and the environment.

Resonating with the Save the Devil Campaign

Trowunna’s mission aligns naturally with Orion’s support for Tasmania’s Save the Devil Campaign, which protects the island’s endangered Tasmanian devil population. While the tanks serve a practical purpose, their presence also enables something larger, helping those who dedicate their lives to preserving Tasmania’s wildlife. Every drop stored contributes to the wellbeing of the animals and the people who care for them.
